We believe at St Mary’s that there is a creative spirit within each person and children need to value, explore, celebrate and enjoy this world in all its diversity. This leads to us giving the children a wide experience of the arts and the world,
We believe trust is the basis for all relationship’s at St Mary’s. We encourage children to tell the truth and act with integrity. We encourage children not to let anyone down and be reliable, even when situations can be tough in life.
At St Mary’s we see life as God’s gift. Our children have been given the responsibility to look after the earth and hold it in trust for the future generations. We teach our children scientific enquiry and alongside this we encourage them to develop a sense of awe, wonder and reverence for our world.
Peace at St Mary’s means children flourish and are nurtured. We care about their wellbeing and create places for stillness in a busy school. Our peace making helps children to resolve conflicts. Jesus said “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
We believe at St Mary’s that we all make mistakes and need forgiveness for each other and God. It means we can put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and try to imagine their lives. It means we can start each day with a “clean slate”. Forgiveness is a sign of courage and strength and a means by which broken relationships can be restored. Kindness is the key to this.
At St Mary’s we believe that encouraging others to do their very best and to overcome their fears and difficulties is a value and skill we can take into adulthood. We believe that God is present in every situation. Success breeds success. We teach the children that goodness will ultimately prevail in a vision for a better future.
At St Mary’s we say “Thank you” a lot !. We encourage children to see the good things in life and appreciate the creativity, wonder and life generally as a gift.
At St Mary’s friendship and love are the keys to relationships within school. We also have friends in other schools – the UK and abroad. We encourage children to see that everyone is precious, unique and cared for and part of our family.
St Mary’s believes that we give all people, particularly the poor and oppressed, what is right and fair for them to have, life, health, freedom and dignity. We encourage the children to thrive off fairness, responsibility for others and how to make our world a better place. We need wisdom to understand the true value of the consequences of our thoughts. Words and actions.
Service at St Mary’s means putting ourselves out for someone else’s benefit. It means “going the extra mile” for others. Children are encouraged to show gratitude for those who help then and in turn use their gifts and talents to help others in the best way they can. “ Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
