Dixie is our School Therapy Dog and she assists in our nurture provision. Dixie is trained as an emotional support dog and is used as part of our recovery curriculum post-COVID with individuals who would benefit from it. It is hoped that Dixie will provide comfort and minimise negative symptoms of children who are suffering emotionally. She also brings many other educational experiences to the children, increases their understanding of responsibility and helps develop empathy and nurturing skills. In addition to these benefits, many children take great enjoyment from interaction with a dog and evidence shows that having a dog in school can provide a calming role model for pupils.
Look out for Dixie around school and say 'hi' but please remember she is a working dog so should not be petted, fed or distracted.
